Message I took my car into Nissan in early Sept 03 for a rebuild. I supplied them with a set of Weisco coated pistons from Z1. Nissan pulled the motor and commissioned a certified engine re-builder to do the engine work... including a valve grind, valve guides, bearings, and a balancing job.

Once reinstalled in the car it was loud both when hot and cold.... they pulled it out and replaced all the lifters and valve keepers. Still crazy loud... They pulled it a second time and replaced all the valves, put it back in and it is still really bad...

So having determined that it is piston slap they are about to pull it again and inspect the clearances, pistons, and cylinder walls for scoring and ovaling. If any damage has been done in the 200 miles its has been driven in total since Sept they they will start fresh with another block... otherwise they will go to .040 oversize pistons.

What are your thoughts on going to the larger bore and pistons vs another block and the same pistons I have now?

Nissan has been terrific about this situation other than the difficulty in correct diagnosis. They are footing all the bills since the first rebuild other than the cost of the lifters which was fair enough at the time except now we realize it proobably didn't need lifters and that the sound has been piston slap all along.
